Inspired to be an artist at an early age, Rebecca is pleased that her pursuits are slowly becoming a reality. Her husband, Darryl, introduced her to the tufa cast technique which she greatly enjoys. Rebecca also received her degree in Secondary Art Education and taught high school art for one year at Rehoboth Christian School, but she decided that raising her three sons was more important for her. Now that Rebecca has more time, she is creating jewelry & hopes to fulfill her other endeavors as an artist by creating other works of art in other mediums. Her next endeavor is to write & illustrate children’s books. She thanks & gives credit to God for her talent & other blessings in her life. Rebecca states, “The inspiration for my art comes from within, who I am as a Navajo/Dineh woman, mother, wife, artist & Christian. I love what I do.”-Rebecca Begay
Rebecca is a 2008 SWAIA Fellowship recipient and she won 2008 SWAIA Best of Jewelry Classification award. This year she and her husband have won the 2009 Best of Show award at the SWAIA Santa Fe Indian market.
